Hearing from God, by the Holy Spirit God has Promiced to send us the Spirit of Truth. How does God use the Holy Spirit inside of us for His Purpose? 2 Timothy 3:16-17 "Scripture is Profitable" A profit is what you have after expenses. It should be pointed out the expense is reading scripture. ( you might want to write this on the board so it can be referred to easily later. ) Isaiah 28:9-12 "Precept upon Precept, Line upon Line." This passage is about the calling of disciples. Who are the disciples? Babes just weaned from milk ( new Christians ) or are is the calling to those who have the Word in them? Interesting notes: Verse (9) - Knowledge is available (10) It is not found in memorizing one or two verses (11) A parallel to Speaking in Touges where Speaking in Tounges edifies, or shows faith. God can use tounges too. (12) If Lead by the Spirit we can obtain rest in Christ. Discussion: What does it mean to "teach knowledge"? ( John 14:25-26 ties this up at the end of this study. ) Luke 2:46-47 "Jesus, as a boy, teaching and gaining knowledge." This is interesting because both Jesus was listening and He was teaching. ( Note the difference in the next verse. ) Matthew 7:29 "One having authority" This is a great change inside Jesus. He had His time to listen and His time to speak. ( He spoke what edified His Father.) Note that the word "authority" is composed of the shorter word author. Jesus, as the Word, is the author indeed. Luke 4:36 "Authority and power" Did Jesus have a secret to both His Authority and His Power? What must we do to have Authority and Power over devils? Luke 4:1-14 "Jesus in the desert, being tempted." Consider first verse (1) "Jesus was Spirit filled" Many of us receive the prayer of being Spirit Filled. Is being Spirit Filled the same as having power? Consider next verse (14) "Filled with the Power of the Holy Spirit" is much different than just having it. What happened in the desert changed Jesus to be "powerful" in the Kingdom of God. Summary: Jesus resisted temptation. He did not sin. He was able to call upon scripture to thwart the ruses of the devil. How did Jesus know which verse to quote? 2 Timothy 3:16-17 "Scripture is Profitable" Discussion: was the scripture profitable to Jesus in this situation? Clearly you are not always taught knowledge to handle every situation. How did Jesus overcome? John 14:25-26 "The Spirit uses Scripture in you." Jesus words appear throughout the Bible. The Holy Spirit needs that you would have read the scripture and have it readily available inside you in your time of need. Then in Faith the Holy Spirit will guide you, your path can and will be lead by the Holy Spirit who will lead you away from danger and to God's choices for your life. Summary: The Holy Spirit is put in place for the children of God to do the will of God. God directs and uses those who love and fear Him, ie. those who follow His commandments. It is for us to seek God through His Scriptures so that we know (1) what is His will (2) what pleases Him. We also will need to gain discernment of His word in our hearts. Then we will be truly lead by the Spirit of God. |
