Jack Matthews to Show Photographs of the 1909 Hudson-Fulton CelebrationFriday, March 8th, 7 PM In 1909, NY State sponsored a huge celebration commemorating the centennial
of Robert Fulton's historic steamboat trip up the Hudson River and the
tricentennial of Henry Hudson's voyage of discovery. One of the largest
assemblies on the river, if not the largest, of naval vessels and steamboats
paraded up the river stoping at various towns for celebrations. Leading
this parade were the full size replicas of Henry Hudson's Half Moon
and Robert Fulton's Clermont built specifically for the Celebration.
This event is sponsored by the Saugerties Fulton Steamboat Foundation which is planning to build another Clermont replica for the Fulton bicentennial in 2009.
