Jack Matthews to Show Photographs of the 1909 Hudson-Fulton Celebration

Friday, March 8th, 7 PM
Saugerties Senior Center
Free Admission

Jack Matthews has a vast collection of photographs of late 19th and early 20th century Hudson River steamboats. Some of these photographs have been displayed prominently in several exhibits at the museum. At this event, Jack will show photographs taken during the 1909 Hudson-Fulton Celebration.

In 1909, NY State sponsored a huge celebration commemorating the centennial of Robert Fulton's historic steamboat trip up the Hudson River and the tricentennial of Henry Hudson's voyage of discovery. One of the largest assemblies on the river, if not the largest, of naval vessels and steamboats paraded up the river stoping at various towns for celebrations. Leading this parade were the full size replicas of Henry Hudson's Half Moon and Robert Fulton's Clermont built specifically for the Celebration.
