Visit by Tugboat Pegasus Canceled

Hudson River Maritime Museum
August 13 to 20, 2005

Free rides available on tugboat Pegasus
and steamboats Mary Theodora and Hessia

The 1907 tugboat Pegasus has been in restoration for the past few years. Her appearance in Kingston would have been her first trip after spending over a million dollars to restore its hull. Although every effort was made, Pegasus will not be ready in time to accompany the Waterfront Museum and Showboat Barge upriver. The decision has been made by the head of the Pegasus to remove Pegasus from the weeks programming.

The tugboat Pegasus will offer free rides at the Hudson River Maritime Museum during the museum's Waterfront Festival, August 13 to 20.

The mission of Tug Pegasus Preservation Project is two-pronged: to preserve a piece of the history of our city’s maritime heritage and to provide a dramatic, effective educational platform.

Built in 1907, Pegasus survives as an example of ship construction as it advanced from one technology to another. This living example of history is available for public to see, study, and enjoy. We are packaging education in an artifact. The tug Pegasus is on the National Register of Historic Places. The project is a not-for-profit preservation effort under charter from the Regents of the State University of the State of New York. Our affiliates include North River Historic Ship Society and Historic Naval Ships Association.
