The mission of Tug Pegasus Preservation Project is two-pronged: to preserve a piece of the history of our citys maritime heritage and to provide a dramatic, effective educational platform.
Built in 1907, Pegasus survives as an example of ship construction as it advanced from one technology to another. This living example of history is available for public to see, study, and enjoy. We are packaging education in an artifact. The tug Pegasus is on the National Register of Historic Places. The project is a not-for-profit preservation effort under charter from the Regents of the State University of the State of New York. Our affiliates include North River Historic Ship Society and Historic Naval Ships Association.
