A group of middle school students will board the Half Moon replica on Sept. 6 to reenact Henry Hudson's historic 1609 voyage of discovery. Starting in lower New York Harbor and ending the Albany, the students will follow Henry Hudson's course up the Hudson River, stopping on the same days and locations where Hudson stopped in 1609.
The students will live and work as Hudson's crew did 400 years ago, climbing the rig to handle sail, sleeping on wooden decks, standing watch, and steering the ship in fair weather and foul. In addition, the students will pursue a rigorous academic program in history and science, and maintain journals of their experience.
The Half Moon will return to Albany on Friday, September 19th, at Noon at the Water Pumping Station in the Corning Preserve.
The students are posting a daily log on the Internet, where you can follow their progress.
The crew of middle school students will post their work and respond to e-mail inquiries by posting answers each day. E-mail (text only, keep it short, and no attachments) may be sent to ship@halfmoon.mus.ny.us
