LAST WEEKEND OF PUBLIC TOURS
This coming weekend, Saturday, Sunday and Monday,
October 11, 12 and 13 will be the last weekend of public tours for the Half Moon this season.

The ship will be open for tours from 10AM to 4PM at the Corning Preserve in Albany, NY. Visitors to the ship will tour below decks and in cabins to see and feel how sailors lived 400 years ago. Adults $5.00, children 12 and over $2.00, children under 12 free. Contact the Albany Visitor Center, 518.434.0405 for further information.

We would like to thank the Kellogg Foundation and Governor George Pataki for their financial support in helping make these educational tours possible.

VOLUNTEERS STILL WELCOME
Volunteers are still needed and welcome to work with the ship in Albany between now and October 17, and in Verplanck at our winter berth especially during the end of October. Those helping in Albany will work to prepare the ship for departure and sailing to Verplanck. Those helping in Verplanck (near Peekskill) will help in winterizing the ship. Many tasks for a variety of interests and skill levels are available. Call 914.413.9924 and speak to Janine Oosterloo if you can help.

RETURN VOYAGE TO WINTER BERTH IN VERPLANCK
The Half Moon will depart Albany on October 17, traveling to Verplanck for arrival on October 19. This last voyage of the season is always interesting, and it looks like an autumn leaves special this year.

If you are interesting in sailing, log some volunteer time before departure (weekends or weekdays, in the office or on the ship) and get your name on our potential crew list. Some slots are still available; those who have logged time working this season have right of first refusal. Call Janine Oosterloo aboard the ship if you are interested. 914.413.9924.

EDUCATIONAL TOURS PROCEEDING WELL
This is the third week of educational tours for 4th grade students in the Capital District of New York. Schools from as far as a two hour drive have visited the ship, and every time slot has been filled for months. The tours are proceeding quite well, which is remarkable, given the rainy weather. Each group has continued its tour regardless of the rain, and in some ways, those touring in the rain had the best time. During the last week of tours students from the Albany City School District will visit the ship. Congratulations to the volunteers who have worked so hard to make these tours a success. More will appear about this in the next printed newsletter.
