Esopus Meadows Lighthouse

Lighthouse Park on River Road
Ulster Park, NY

At 7 pm, on Saturday, May 31, the light on the Esopus Meadows Lighthouse will be turned on. After almost 40 years, the Esopus Meadows Lighthouse Tower light will again shine to guide vessels plying the Hudson River. A ceremony to commemorate this event will be held at Lighthouse Park on River Road in Ulster Park, NY.

The current Lighthouse was completed in 1871, and the lighthouse was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on May 29th, 1979. It has been nicknamed "Maid of the Meadows".

The Save Esopus Lighthouse Commission was formed in the summer of 1990 for the purpose of restoring and preserving this maritime treasure. The U S Coast Guard leased the lighthouse to the group until September 2002. During a ceremony on September 22, 2003 stewardship of the structure was officially transferred from the government to the Save the Esopus Lighthouse Commission.
