Saugerties Waterfront Festival
Great Hudson River Paddle 2003

Saturday, July 5th, 1 to 6 pm
At Saugerties Tina Chorvas Park
and the Saugerties Lighthouse

The Great Hudson River Paddle: For ten days beginning in Albany on July 3 and ending in New York City on July 13, a group of paddlers and guides will paddle 145 miles of the Hudson River stopping each night at prearranged sites along the way. One of the selected camp sites is Saugerties' Tina Chorvas Waterfront Park. A festival to welcome the paddlers will be held Saturday afternoon and evening, July 5th, at the Saugerties waterfront.

Schedule of events:

At the Saugerties Lighthouse:

  • 1:00 - 5:00 Free Kenco Kayak Demos and Instruction
  • 1:00 - 5:00 Tours of the Saugerties Lighthouse.
  • 2:00 - 5:00 "Images by the River" Draw or paint the river environment with award winning Hudson Valley artist Kate McGloughlin and other local artists. Bring your own watercolors, pastels, pencils and pads. Meet Kate at the Saugerties lighthouse. (no oils please) All ages welcome!

At Tina Chorvas Waterfront Park:

  • 1:00 - 6:00 Hudson River displays and hands-on programs:
  • 1:00 - 6:00 Fly tying and Fly Fishing demo/instruction - Fly tyer “Reel Cowboy” Bill Newcomb
  • 1:30 - 3:30 Puppet making of river life with Lisa Abbatamarco
  • 3:00 - 5:30 Saugerties Fulton Steamboat Foundation: Learn about the first Robert Fulton Steamboat and the project to re-create it.
  • 4:30 - 5:30 Write your own river poem with Rich Parisio, DEC Environmental Educator and poet.
  • Puppet Parade and Stilt walking with Lisa Abbatamarco.
  • 5:30 - 7:30 Display of the Hudson River Art, Puppets & Poetry - Work from the day will be photographed and displayed on the GHRP gallery web site.
