TOOLS NEEDED

FOR A TWIN SIZE LOFT BED

  • Variable speed drill with: 1 1/2", 1", 1/8", 3/8", 9/16"
  • Wood boring drill bits and a Phillips-head drill bit
  • Circular saw or miter saw
  • Sabre saw
  • Belt sander or orbital sander (optional)
  • Regular and rubber head hammers
  • Framing square
  • Ratchet wrench with 3/4" socket
  • Drill press, if available (for straighter holes) optional

MATERIALS LIST

  • (3) 8' x 2"x8" Kiln-dried spruce
  • (4) 8' x 2"x3" (For ladder and 2"x3" post braces)
  • (1) 1/2"x 4' x 8' plywood or (1) 3/8"x 4 ' x 8 ' sheet B/C plywood
  • (1) 14' x 2" x 4" (1) 8' x 2" x 4"
  • (3) 3' x 1" dowels (Ladder steps)
  • (16) 5" x 1/2" carriage bolts and nuts
  • (16) 1/2" regular washers
  • (16) Lock washers
  • (6) 2" x 4" joist hangers
  • (24) 1" sheet rock screws (or 1 1/4")
  • (32) 2 1/2" sheet rock screws, and (8) 3" screws
  • Wood glue
  • Sandpaper
  • (4) 8' x 4" x 4" (posts) kiln dried pine, cedar, or Douglas Fir

(Make sure your posts are dry and straight before starting. After you stain and finish, it will cut down on warping and cracking). If using cedar it will be a little darker after staining.

NOTE: Make sure all your lumber is dry and straight before starting to minimize cracking and warping.
