DIRECTIONS
1.
Cut (2) 18" x 2" x 3"s.
2.
On each 18" x 2" x 3" with your sabre saw, cut out (1 1/2" x
61/4 ").
See Diagram #1.
3. Now position each piece as in
Diagram #2.
4. Now measure down from each top, 1
1/4", draw line; now measure in from the end, 1 1/4" draw a line; the
intersecting (2) lines is where you drill with your 7/8" bit 3/4" deep.
(See Diagram #3).
5. Now measure up from each piece 3
1/2", draw line; now measure in from the end 1 1/4"; draw a line, the
intersection (2) lines is where you drill with your 7/8" bit 3/4" deep. (See
Diagram #3).
6. Now with your 1/8" bit, drill
through the 7/8" holes and out the other side; now countersink these 1/8"
holes from the outside with your 3/8" bit, 3/8" deep (these holes are for
drilling your 1 1/2" sheet rock screws through, into your dowels later.
7. Now with your sabre saw, cut off
your tops and sand them down so they are rounded off (see Diagram #4).
You can also use a soup can.
8. Now put your 3' dowels into
your 7/8" holes, with some wood glue (both ends), lay it down flat, one end up
against something solid; now from the outsides, with your Philips Head bit, sink
your 1 1/2" sheetrock screws, through into your dowels (see Diagram #5).
Repeat for other end.
9. Wipe off any glue, and fill in
you're outside 3/8" holes with wood putty, let dry (laying flat), with
weight on top; sand and stain.
10. Now add your 6" mending plates (1) to each end with 1 1/4" sheet rock
screws (Diagram #6). You can mount
this rail right on top of your (2 x 8) sides of your bed and screw it down in
any position with (4) 1 1/4" sheet rock screws.
