This one's for the purists!
Last year, as we were celebrating Y2K, the pedants never ceased to pity us and remind us that the third millennium does not begin until January 1, 2001. Though the rollover of the calendar year makes for a more compelling celebration, it is hard to pass up the opportunity to celebrate a once in a thousand years occurrence, two years in a row.
Not interested in running two or even one full Marathon? Form a relay team, or just run as much or little as you want. We'd love to have the company.
Throughout much of the 1990's we had the opportunity to start each new year off on the wrong foot by running the Mostly Maniacs Marathon. This challenging 26.2 mile course starts and finishes at the Cliff House in Palenville, New York. It runs past some of the finest chicken houses in Greene County, around Little Round Top Mountain, and along the appropriately named Heart's Content Road..

The past few New Year's Days have found us running down the other side of the river. This out and back course starts in Annandale-on-Hudson, near Tivoli South Bay. It runs along the river, past orchards, charming gatehouses, frightening mansions, and the Rhinecliff Train Station, turning around at an excellent view of Vandenbergh Cove in Staatsburg.

Both runs are low key, self-aided fun runs. Roads will be open to traffic, but are lightly traveled.
