Spiritual Works in Faith: Knowing what to ask for

Isaiah 29:13-14 "Propesy of Christ and the Holy Spirit"
Jesus arrived to meet a people who were "dull" in spirit.  Jesus and His ministering by the Holy Spirit was new.  It came with
miracles, teaching, prophecy, rebuke, and witnessing of the Father was the goal.

1 Corinthians 12:3-11 "The Holy Spirit Ministers"
An "administrator" ministers to teachers who teach children under the guidelines of the administrator. The Holy Spirit is sent,
therefore, to minister using the gifts of the spirit: Wisdom, Knowledge, Faith, Healing, Miracles, Prophesy, Discerning,
   Tongues, Interpretation of Tongues.
Write these on the board.
Notice also verse (6) references God the Father, (5) Jesus the Son (4) The Holy Spirit. These verses breakdown the
hierarchy of gifts of the Spirit.

1 Corinthians 12:28-31 "God's Appointments"
Each person, in the Church, is appointed.  By the Holy Spirit we are annointed.
Note: Write these down, in order, on the board and leave space to the right of each.  Verse (31) also sets up a "cliffhanger",

"earnestly desire the best gifts. And yet I show you a more excellent way."

How does a person access Gifts of the Spirit - or - Be Appointed in the Church?

Matthew 7:7-8 "Ask and it will be given to you."
If you are on a mission for God, ask and it will be given.  Why?  Because God wants you to be an effective witness - of Him.

Matthew 21:21-22 "Ask in Faith"
Ask in Prayer!  Ask without doubt.   Consider: if you are on a mission of God, will He not support you spiritually?  Will He not
work with you to make you the most effective "appointee" in the church, or on a mission, or at school, or at work?  If He has
appointed you, you have a right to ask.  Your Faith dictates what you will receive.  Faith is a gift of the Spirit.

Isaiah 55:12 "God's Word will not return void"
God is trying to teach us how to pray.  Pray for your needs.  If you have committed yourself to Christ, and to witness to God,
the pray for Wisdom, or Knowledge, or Healing, or to Teach, or to Discern, or for Tongues.  You prayer is returning God's
word to Him.  This pleases God.  It fulfills His prophecy... by your prayers!   His word did not return void and without
meaning, but instead, Heard, Understood, and asked for in the proper light.

1 Corinthians 13:1-13 "All Gifts require Love"
Here is the crux of the matter: God requires love too.  There are acts, and acts of love.  Both achieve the same physical goal,
but only one is rewarded.  ( Didn't we preach in your name?  Jesus said," I never knew you." )  Verse (8) -
Some gifts are used by God to grown your inner witness, then may disappear forever.  You are required to continue to
speak of the inner witness, after all, it did happen to you - right?  Further Verse (11) allows that when faced with hardship,
and the unknown, and you just need GOD you could still look to the other gifts - like speaking in tongues - because
the words fail you.  If God's word is not in you, you can't return it to Him in prayer.  Verse (11) allows us to be human.

Luke 6:40 "Perfect Training"
Always remember, God is in control.

Matthew 17:15-21 "Case Study: Apostles cannot cast out the demon."
Given this story, what would the appropriate thing to ask for from the Gifts of the Spirit?
