On Saturday, May 21st, at 11:00 am, The City of Kingston and Mid-Hudson
Estuarine Services Inc. will celebrate the grand opening of the Rondout
lighthouse ferry. For more information,
Regularly scheduled trips to the lighthouse will begin Memorial Day weekend.
11:00 am — Grand Opening Ceremony The event will kick-off at 11:00 am with Kingston Mayor James M. Sottile christening the Dirigo, a new marine vessel acquired by Mid-Hudson Estuarine Services Inc. to provide transportation and tours of Rondout Creek and the Rondout Lighthouse.
12:00 - 5:00 pm — Boat Rides for Food
Every person who brings a bag containing ten items of nonperishable food,
a ten dollar gift certificate from a local grocery store, or an equivalent
cash donation will receive a free boat ride and tour of the Rondout Lighthouse.
The food donations are in support of the Catholic Charities Food Pantry, The Caring Hands Soup Kitchen of the Clinton Avenue United Methodist Church, and the Kingston Pantry for Persons with Special Dietary Needs. The special needs pantry has requested: plain oatmeal, brown rice, sugar free peanut butter and jelly, sugar free canned fruit, salt free canned vegetables, chicken noodle soup, tea bags, canola oil, canned beans, honey, sugar free Jello, flavored seltzer water, canned white potatoes, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, and pepper.
7:00 - 10:00 pm — Lighthouse Fundraiser
On Saturday, May 21st, 7 to 10 pm, there will be a cocktail party fundraiser
to support the restoration and operation of the Rondout Lighthouse. The
event is hosted by the Friends of the Lighthouse Committee at the lighthouse.
Tickets are limited and reservations are required. The cost is $40.00
