Lois McClure

The Hudson River Maritime Museum, Kingston, NY, will host the canal schooner replica Lois McClure from July 15 to 18 at the museum. The Lois McClure will be open for on-board tours, and a traveling exhibit and commemorative tent from the Lake Chaplain Maritime Museum will explain the history of Lake Champlain canal schooners and the building the replica Lois McClure.

During the Lois McClure's visit, the Hudson River Maritime Museum is sponsoring a Family Festival with music, food, exhibits and lectures. Music will be provided by the Ian Bennett and the Van Travis Band. Summertime food specialties and beverages will be offered by Joyous Cafe. Tours of the New York Trolley Museum and boat rides to the Rondout lighthouse will be available from the museum.

The 88-foot, 1862 canal schooner replica, Lois McClure, was built and launched in Burlington VT. by the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum. Grand Journey Tour 2005 will retrace the historic route through the Champlain Canal and the Hudson River, stopping at ports along the way. The Hudson River Maritime Museum in Kingston is the Lois McClure's first port of call on the river.

Canal Boat

Hudson River Journey

Joanne Michaels co-authored with photographer Hardie Truesdale, Hudson River Journey: Images from Lake Tear of the Clouds to New York Harbor and Adirondack High: Images of America's First Wilderness. She also co-authored with Mary Barlie, Let's Take the Kids! Great Places to Go with Children in New York's Hudson Valley.

Free admission. Event will be held outside at the gazebo, weather permitting.
