Schooner Lois McClure

Share the moment as the 88-foot replica 1862 canal schooner Lois McClure, the first large wooden vessel built and launched in Burlington in over 100 years, prepares to depart from Lake Champlain for a trip down the Hudson River.

Spend a day touring the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum free of charge! The museum opens at 10 a.m. Visit the new exhibits, check out the works in progress in the Conservation lab, and watch the Champlain Discovery participants create their kayaks.

From 4 to 7 p.m. join in a farewell celebration for the schooner and crew, complete with refreshments and live music by Atlantic Crossing. The schooner is scheduled to embark the next morning enroute to Whitehall and the Champlain Canal! Brought to you by the farm families who own Cabot.

This full-scale working replica constructed by Lake Champlain Maritime Museum shipwrights and volunteers will bring commercial history back to life as we retrace the historic route through the Champlain Canal and down the Hudson River to New York City.

Lois McClure in Kingston

The Hudson River Maritime Museum in Kingston is the Lois McClure's first port-of-call on the Hudson River. The schooner will be available for tours from July 15 to 18 at the Hudson River Maritime Museum.

Schedule of events at the Hudson River Maritime Museum, July 15 to 18.

As the schooner travels the historic Northern Waterway, visitors at every port of call will be able to climb on board and discover firsthand how these unique and important vessels operated, what products they carried and who the commercial boatmen and their families were.

The schooner Lois McClure offers a once in a lifetime opportunity to reconnect with the era that shaped the development of communities throughout the northeastern United States.

This replica vessel is based on the archaeological studies of two canal schooner shipwrecks located in Burlington Harbor, the General Butler and the O.J. Walker.
